In 2005, Wayne County participated in a regional ortho flight that was painstakingly organized by SEMCOG (South Eastern Michigan Council Of Governments).  The regional flight consisted of the seven counties that make up southeastern Michigan (Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw, and Wayne) collectively procuring their ortho imagery at the same time in order to qualify for a significant cost reduction.  Whereas it normally costs around $325,000 to fly ortho imagery for all of Wayne County on its own, by participating in the regional flight, the cost came down to $85,000.  The cost of Wayne County's share of the regional flight was paid for with grant dollars through Wayne County DHSEM.  The imagery is available to all Wayne County communities free of charge.
