Delivery...

Wayne County DHSEM is committed to getting the Pictometry application and data delivered to all 43 communities ASAP.  We value the importance of GIS as much as you do and we certainly don't want this important new tool to sit and stagnate on a shelf.  All of the Pictometry imagery will be made available on our FTP site, however this isn't the most efficient means of obtaining it since it is several hundred gigabytes in size.  The intent of having it on the FTP site is so that there will always be a central repository online where you know you can always obtain it.  Further, CD's and DVD's can be published for you but this also introduces issues given the size of the data.  A CD can hold around 800Mb (smaller than a gigabyte... 1,000Mbs = 1Gb) and a DVD can hold around 4Gb.  So your community's imagery would be spread across a number of CD/DVD's which makes it cumbersome to navigate the imagery since you'd have to switch discs frequently.

The best way of delivering this imagery is by way of an external hard drive which is capable of holding all of the imagery that you need.  You can request either just your community's imagery or any other community's imagery that you have disk space for.  Your requested imagery will be uploaded to an external hard drive for you to come pick up or for us to deliver to you.  Offload the imagery from the hard drive to your network and return the hard drive when you are finished.  If you have an external hard drive of your own, you are of course welcome to bring it as well.

Also being delivered with the imagery is a current street centerline file from the State which allows for address lookup's and geocoding over top of the Pictometry imagery.  Wayne County DHSEM is also packaging a railroads layer.  As additional layers of data (hospitals, schools, water ways, etc.) are developed, they will be made available for download from our FTP site.  If you have data layers you would like to share with others, feel free to have Wayne County DHSEM put them on our FTP site if you would like to.

Each community's imagery contains some overlap into their neighboring communities.  If you are interested in having regions of data (such as a Western Wayne or Downriver region of imagery), Wayne County DHSEM can construct this for you, at no cost, and it will result in a lesser amount of disk space since it would eliminate duplicate sectors of data.

To request your imagery, either eMail or call Jay Timko at (734)-942-5289.
