Wayne County Participates in Chemical Awareness Week

Wayne County - Wayne County's Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management will participate in "Chemical Awareness Week", held May 7-13, 2006.  This is an event that is being promoted by the Michigan State Police (MSP) Emergency Management Division, the State Emergency Response Commission (SERC) , and the Michigan Chemistry Council.

This year's awareness focuses on directing citizens in what to do in the case of a chemical emergency with an emphasis on 'shelter in place'.  "We encourage citizens to visit our website at www.WayneCountyEMD.Com for pamphlets on safety awareness," said Director James Buford.  "We are highly focused on bringing our citizens the correct information, so we can prevent an incident.  Public awareness is a vital part of Homeland Security and Emergency Management."

We are all aware of the hazards that improper storage, transportation and use of chemicals can create.  Accidents involving chemicals and other hazardous materials do occur.  It is important to be aware of the possible dangers that chemicals pose to our families and communities, and what precautions should be taken to avoid harm.

Please feel free to download any of the brochures below and to visit some of the website links.  Coming soon, online videos of various safety issues.
